Thursday, October 25th truly exemplified Blueberry as a “learning community”.
As you may be aware (judging by the several hundred parents, students, former students, and community members in attendance you likely are) our recent Monster Mash was again a great success. Those who came to our school enjoyed a haunted house, bouncy castle, dancing, games, prizes, candy, popcorn, and much more. Throughout the evening I heard from many superheroes, ghosts and goblins how much fun they were having. What so many were unaware of is how many people contributed to make this such a great family event.
When the call came from the amazing Mrs. Cust, staff members jumped into action t0 plan this years party. After weeks of preparation the big night arrived. Parents and students stepped up to run stations in the gym, a DJ volunteered his time, equipment and expertise to provide music, another parent built games that kids were enjoying, other community members donated dozens of bags of candy for prizes, leadership students planned many of the activities and worked with Ms. Abbas Nejad to create a haunted house in the staff room.
With everyone full of hot dogs, popcorn and way to much candy, the evening was brought to a close. While many would assume that all monsters scattered into the night (after all, we all had school the next day!) there were dozens of parents, community members, staff and students who remained to help our custodians prepare the school for the next day. It was truly amazing to see so many stacking chairs, cleaning floors, putting supplies away and just ensuring that our students had a place to learn in 12 short hours.
Not only was the Monster Mash fun for all, it reminded all of how fortunate we are to be members of the Blueberry learning community. Come witness our community for yourself on Friday, November 9th for our Remembrance Day Ceremony or join us for any of our other upcoming events listed on our school website!
