Landscape for Learning

Well if you haven’t yet heard about Blueberry School’s Landscape for Learning project now is definitely a good time!  We are very excited that the Blueberry School Fundraising Committee (BSFC) has begun their work towards helping us re-create our school campus.  We are very excited for the unique nature of this project.  How often are we able to invest in our school to benefit our students, while at the same time providing great opportunities for our parents and community members?

As you may be aware, one of the four priorities of Parkland School Division is to Engage our Community.  At Blueberry School, we very much agree that a strong relationship with our community members will absolutely support the work that we do with our students.  The vision of this project is to work with our students, staff, parents and community members to create together a campus that all of our community will want to spend time at not only during school hours, but on beautiful spring afternoons and weekends!  We want to have a space that not only promotes physical health and wellness but also emotional wellness and relaxation.  We want our campus to be a place where families and groups of kids can come to have fun, relax, or simply just hang out.  We want our school campus to be a place that meets the needs of both our students and community members for use throughout the year!

This is where you come in!  There are a few things that you can do to help us achieve our goal.  We have received excellent support from our students, parents and community members through our fundraising efforts this year.  The BSFC has completed a Silpada sales event, a spell a thon, a magazine subscription campaign and they will soon be starting an M&M meats fundraiser – just in time for bar b q season:).  Please continue to consider supporting our project through these and future fundraising initiatives where you feel it is appropriate.

You can also help us by providing your thoughts on what you would like to see at your community’s school!  I have already had the opportunity to speak with our school staff to determine what they believe would help us to create the campus that we envision, and Assistant Principal Mrs. MacKenzie and I have already had an opportunity to meet with student leaders from grades 4-9 to discuss what they would like to see at their school to promote health and wellness but we know that more voices can lead to more valuable suggestions.  What would you like to see on the school campus?

There are several ways to share your thoughts and ideas.  I encourage you to simply reply to this blog with your suggestions or with comments on the suggestions of others, you are also welcome post your thoughts on our Facebook page (which will be arriving soon) or you can email either myself at or the Fundraising Committee Chair, Erin Fuhr at  If you prefer a more “personal” approach, please feel free to call me at the school or stop in to share your suggestions!

Thank you so much for the support you have already shown to this initiative!  We look forward to hearing from you as we continue to work together to transform our campus into a space for all!
