What’s Up At Woodhaven Middle School? April 7-10

WMS School PicAs I shared in my previous post,  I continue to try to continue to engage my learning community in the work happening at Woodhaven Middle School. One way in which I hope to achieve this goal is to share the highlights of my weekly staff Monday Memo via this blog so here goes!

This week at Woodhaven, we are giving a shout out to Mrs. Glegloff for her fantastic work organizing such a great Talent Show just before spring break. We also have a huge thank you to Mr. Chan who organized the Slam Dunk Competition! Both of these teachers helped create a fun day for our staff, parents in attendance, and our students.

As we look forward to this week we have a lot on the go. Our School Based Support Team will be meeting with teachers again this week. I began to create a description of this team and it’s purpose in this post but very quickly realized that in order to do justice to this topic a full, future blog post will be required! Suffice it to say for now that this team is one more resource designed to support teachers with strategies and resources to program for their students.

Also this week, we are looking forward to our High School Registration evening on Thursday, as well as our School Wide Health Day on Thursday and our Senior Badminton Challenge on Friday.

Also included in the weekly memo is a heads up on where administration and members of our leadership team are throughout the week. This week I am fortunate enough to join a few of our teachers at Greystone Centennial Middle School on Friday for a professional learning opportunity examining their work with the Galileo Network over the past 10 years. Also taking advantage of some professional learning this week is our Learning Coach, Mrs. Gericke, who is attending some professional development this week provided by our Learning Services Department.

As is usually the case, there are a few “To Do’s” for our staff again this week. We are focusing on having our students complete an “options survey” which will help inform our decisions on which Career and Technology Foundation Challenges we will provide to our students next year. Teachers will also be reminding their students to have their parents complete and return the permission form for our upcoming Health Day on Human Sexuality.

Finally, each week I conclude the memo with a professional development opportunity, task, reading etc. This week I asked staff to read a short blog post titled “The 8 Mind Frames of Teachers Who Impact Student Learning”

That’s a snapshot of this week at Woodhaven Middle School 🙂
