Off and Running!!!

With the return of over 450 excited kids on Tuesday at Woodhaven Middle School was a busy place! It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces. Kids were showing off their first day outfits, telling stories of their summer adventures and getting to know their new teachers and classmates. I had the good fortune of stopping into each class with our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Enders and welcoming back all of our kids!

A quick note about an important change at our school this year:

  • The timing of our lunch break has changed this year to accommodate our new 7 block schedule. Lunch is now from 11:57 – 12:45 and is structured as follows:
    • 11:57 – 12:21 – Gr 5&6 students on recess at the park and back field
    • 11:57 – 12:21 – Gr 7-9 students are eating lunch in classrooms
    • 12:21 – 12:45 – Gr 5&6 students are eating lunch in classrooms
    • 12:21 – 12:45 – Gr 7-9 students are on recess in the gym, library or front park
  • You can find our complete bell schedule on our website.

Other important information:

  • Our staff list can be found here on our website
  • Students in grades 7-9 have begun choosing their options. You can learn more about our options on our website.
  • Meet the Staff barbeque – on Thursday, September 13th from 5:30 – 7 p.m. we will once again be hosting our Meet the Staff barbeque at Woodhaven. This is a great opportunity to come in to see you child’s teachers and say hello. Cost for the barbecue is by donation. The suggested donation for your hot dog, chips and juice/water is $2 with all proceeds going to our Fine Arts program. We look forward to seeing you there!
  • School Council Meeting and Elections – Our first School Council meeting of the year will also serve as our elections. Please consider coming out to join this dedicated group of parents. School Council provides a great opportunity to learn about what’s happening within our school and to provide input. We hope to see some new faces again this year.

I would like to wrap things up… for now… with a few pictures from our First Day “Omniken and Tug Of War Challenge”.

Until next time,

Mr. S. Patras
