Well we’ve had a few weeks to get our feet back under us and our kids seem to be adjusting very well. Those who have continued in Option 2 (online learning) have progressed pretty seamlessly in the new year, and our students who returned to us for in-person learning are adjusting well to being back in our school. It is so wonderful to have our students back with us seeing the school filled with laughter and learning!
Dressing for the Weather
While we’ve enjoyed some fantastic weather so far this year, we can see the temperatures dropping near the end of this week. We will still be having outdoor recesses whenever possible so please support your child in dressing for the conditions. Toques, gloves and a warm coat will be very appreciated by the kids as the weather turns on us.
Lost and Found
If you find yourself making weekly trips to the store for new toques and gloves, perhaps a check of our lost and found will save you some time and money! With the covid protocols in place this year we’ve had to change how we manage our lost and found. This year all items are stored in the office, where students or parents are welcome to come find their valued possessions! To make it even easier, parents are encouraged to check our School Facebook Page as Mme Pirot posts pictures of these items frequently. Items are donated to a local charity at the end of the day every Monday.
Student Drop off and Pick Up
Thank you to all of our families who have helped us to reduce the congestion in our hallways by dropping your children off between 8:36 and 8:45. We will continue to take attendance promptly after 8:45 a.m.
For those families dropping students off, we thank you for not entering the school parking lot during the posted bus times from 8:10 – 8:31 and 2:50 – 3:20. Ensuring that traffic is minimized when our students and buses are in the parking lot is one more way we can work together to keep our kids safe.
Also please remember that supervision is in place inside and outside of the school after 8:15 a.m. Prior to that time, the school is not unlocked and supervision is not in place so please remain with your children should they be dropped off prior to 8:15 a.m. After school, supervision is in place from 3:06 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. Kids must be picked up by 3:20 p.m. as there is not supervision inside of the school after this time.
Should you have any questions about these times, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at the school. We appreciate your support in keeping our kids safe.
Upcoming School Council Meeting
Please consider attending our next School Council meeting on Wednesday, February 3rd at 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. This meeting will be held virtually. School Council is a great way to connect with school administration, other parents, our Trustee and to learn what is happening in our school community! Should you be interested in attending, please rsvp to our School Council Co-Chairs, Mr. Blaine Bretzlaff and Mrs. Crystal Harnum at meridianheightsscchair@psd70.ab.ca
Winter Walk Day
We are excited at Ecole Meridian Heights School to be participating in the Winter Walk Day on Wednesday, February 3rd. Your child’s class will be going outside for a walk at some point during that day, exploring our local community, getting some fresh air and exercise and reconnecting with our environment. Please support your child by ensuring he/she is dressed appropriately for the weather.
That’s it for now. Stay safe 🙂
Mr. S. Patras
Principal, Ecole Meridian Heights School
