March Updates from EMHS

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences

Our Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences are fast approaching. Don’t forget to book an appointment with your child’s teacher(s) for Tuesday, March 15th or Thursday, March 17th between 4 and 7 p.m. Your child’s teacher(s) will be sending out the appointment schedule to you. This very brief video will remind you how to book your appointment (disregard the dates stated in the video as it’s from a previous year). Should you require any support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our school office.

Alberta Education Assurance Survey

If you are a parent of a student in grade 4 or 7, you will have received information on the Alberta Education Assurance Survey. I encourage you to take a moment to complete this survey to share your thoughts on the work we are doing as a community at EMHS.

Students in grades 4-9 will also be completing this survey to share their important perspectives on our school community. Should you have any questions about this survey, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at the school.

Covid Protocols at EMHS

As you are very likely aware, the majority of COVID protocols within the province have recently been removed. Some of the questions that have already arose are around things such as volunteering in the school and cohorting. At this time, we are continuing to monitor the impact of these recent decisions on covid cases within our school community. As we learn more, we will begin to take additional steps in our return to normal operations. This will include welcoming volunteers back into our school and considering reducing or removing some of the cohorting structures currently in place.

At this time, we are not yet welcoming volunteers back into our classrooms but are looking forward to doing so in the future. We’ve all missed your contributions in our school over the past few years! Cross cohorting students may begin to take place in the upcoming weeks where appropriate for educational and programming reasons.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding over the past 2 years as we’ve navigated through this together. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at the school.

High School Transition

While it may seem hard to believe that we are already working on the transition of our grade 9’s to high school, the time has come!

French Immersion students at EMHS have had the opportunity to hear the presentations both from Spruce Grove Composite High School and from Memorial Composite High School recently at our school, with our English stream students attending the Memorial Composite High School introduction only.

Parents have already seen the course recommendations for students with the high school registration forms. Next steps in this process is for parents and students to attend the open house at either Memorial Composite High School (for our English stream students and those FI students who may be interested in attending MCHS) on March 10th, 2022 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. or the Open House at Spruce Grove Composite High School (for our French Immersion students) on March 17th, 2022. We apologize for the double booking of our Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences on March 17th as this date was previoulsy established in our school. We encourage parents and students to schedule their conference on Tuesday, March 15th if possible or early in the evening Thursday March 17th. First time high school parents at MCHS are encouraged to take a look at this video helping you to become familiar with what to expect in this transition.

That’s it for now!
